To be the consummate consultant, develop an expertise that starts in a small niche (that is needed without a great deal of competition) and slowly expand to a grander niche.
Also, recommend the reading of the following books:
* Secrets of Consulting;
* More Secrets of Consulting;
* Jiang Tai Gong's Six Strategies (Chapter 1 and 2);
* Sun Zi AoW (All 13 chapters);
* Huang Shi Gong's Three Strategies (All three Chapters);
* Wang Xu's "Master of Ghost Valley" (All chapters).
To excel in the global economy, there are many factors that the budding consultant must consider:
* securing latest information relating to his niche and global factors that can affect his niche;
* securing a secured information system (data server, backup data storage, etc.);
* deciding on which two niches to focus on: the elite or the masses;
* developing a good strategic network of good clients;
* developing a good strategic network of world class tactical expeditors
* foreign languages; and
* know what metaphor that one is consciously and unconsciously using.
When dealing with people, one (the complete consultant) should remember the following quote:
Zizhang said, The superior man honors the wise and tolerates the common man, praises the virtuous and has compassion for the incapable.
子張曰君子尊賢而容眾嘉善而矜不能.
