Best Practice (7c): Focus regardless of the settings

/// Zone, Focus and Extend

In the 1960's and 70's, East Germany and USSR Olympic teams dominate in their sporting events due to many things (from steroids and mental imaging).

Their team training emphasized greatly on visualization during practice and before gametime.

Grigori Raiport's book
"Red Gold" meticulously discusses this topic of mental imaging, focusing and concentration.

As a weekend desktop warrior, this
Cardinal pre-stages his activities by visualizing his performances before gametime. It has helped this Cardinal in his cycling and internal gameplay.

Following are some of the general visualization drills that are taught by my associates:

Note: Each exercise start from the state of ZhengXin. Suggest that these exercises are done while standing.

1. The Clock game
Look at a clock.
Visualize the timeline that you want to wake up.
Go to bed.
Relax, Breathe Deeply.
Visualize the timeline from your mindeye.
Theoretically, you should wake up @ that time frame.

2. The [Internal Exercise] Game (For the martial art players)
Take your favorite internal martial art set and visualize yourself
performing this set before you do it.
The key clue to this exercise is : ["Think Six Views"].
fyi- This Cardinal performs this before he goes to bed.

3a. The [Incremental Number] Game
* Visualize
a white wall then the number "0" appearing on the wall.
* Go from the number 0 to the number 9.
* As each number appear, the phonetic sound of that number is broadcasted
in your mind.
*
The exercise is over after the number [9] appears.

3b. The [Decremental Number] Game
* Visualize
a white wall then the number "9" appearing on the wall.
* Go from the number 9 to the number 0.
* As each number appear, the phonetic sound of that number is broadcasted
in your mind.
*
The exercise is over after the number [09] appears.

4. The Center point (aka. Cross bars) Game
* Centralize the body w. Taiji's Zhao Zhuang posture or Xingyi's San Ti Posture.
* Concentrate on the center point of the wall.
* Visualize a white wall and then a black point to the wall.
* Focus on this point while feeling how the body is responding.
* The exercise is over when you feel it's over.

5.
The Center point (aka. Cross bars) Game with an straight angled implement
* The first three steps of this exercise are the same.
* Take the straight implement and extend the implement toward the central
point.
* Focus on this point while feeling how the body is responding.
* The exercise is over when you feel it's over.

6. Multiprocessing and Switch
* Take two radios or (one radio and one CD player) and place it across each other.
* Listen to music on one side
* Listen to news on the other side.
* The broadcast of the news should be low enough when one can hear his thoughts
* The music should be one or two volume level lower the news broadcast.

Cardinal rule: Focus on the target while mind one's settings.

This Cardinal recommends the Grigori Raiport's book "Red Gold".

In the new future, will outline some more exercises from his friends who're studying YiQuan

You will find it on this thread or in our future book aka "the Crimson Book".

[ More to come. ]
