There's an old Chinese story where a grandfather gave two sets of similar gifts to both his grandson and granddaughter who're ready to graduate from college.

In each set, there was three boxes.

In the first box was a high quality compass and a global map. A high quality performance watch was in the second box. And the last box contained a high-quality pen (w/ a razor-sharp tip) and a red-colored leather-bound notebook with high-quality paper.

Besides being a great set of functional gifts to its receivers, there were hidden symbolisms behind each gift.

The grandfather began to explain to his grandkids, "The map symbolizes 'the importance of the world as an infinite place of numerous opportunities', where the compass emphasizes 'the earnest of having a direction to reach the destination '. ... The watch reminds you 'the value of time'. Where the pen and the notebook accentuates 'the magnitude of planning and the presentation of an idea with brevity'. "

One last significant premise is having the proper quality tools that assist the goal seeker(s) in completing their aspiration.

@ that moment, the grandchildren knew that ["... to succeed in a competitive world, they must have control of their direction, their time and their plan ..."]. They thanked their grandfather for the gifts and the lesson. As they left him, they remembered this sole moment as "a lesson of inspiration and drive" for the rest of their lives.
