After 3 quarters, the score is Falcons 27 Lions 7. And the play calling and execution on the side of the Lions sucked. @ the same time, Lions offense was sucking air and the Lions players acted like they didn't want to ["compete to win"].
Steve "Mouch" Mariucci who is an "above adequate" motivator but did not learn anything from Bill Walsh in terms of how to coach a team.
Reason: He was scared to ask Walsh, because he didn't want Walsh to pinpoint his list of weaknesses.
When Mouch was under Mike Holmgren at Green Bay as the QB coach. He did not learn how to call plays. Mike H. called all of the plays.
When he was the Niners coach, it was rumored that Steve Young and Rice called most of the plays. ... :))
Mouch and Marty Morninway spent their time, saying "Yes Steve. .. .You're right ... Steve. ... Damm. Steve and Rice! ... You guys look good."
Walsh Rule: Never let the patients run the nut house.
Most of the time, Mouch focused on how he should looked wearing "thousand dollars" suit and then focus on how they will win the game. :))
Regardless what I say about Mouch. Heard he is a nice guy, but he is way "over his head" as a head coach.
The only head coaches from the Holmgren lineage that knows how to call offensive plays efficiently are Andy Reid and Mike Sherman (Still thinks Brett Favre is calling most of the plays). ... Ever notice Mouch calling the plays? Hmmm ...
If you are not calling your base plays and teaching your field general how to call the "adjustment" plays, you have no control of your future.
There are a few smart and experienced QBs who can adjust their play calling in midst of a down. (i.e., Montana, Young, Brady, Manning, Gannon (retired), Jake Plummer, etc.)
As a head coach, it's important to have a T/V that emphasize that everyone knows how to function as a team and delineate the "specific hows" on being efficient. ...
Bottom line: "Just because one knows what to do or what to expect does not mean he or she knows how to do it." Ask Mike Brown formerly at Fema about knowing the "How to" Specifics.
You can guess who I picked to win the game. ...
Mouch spends too much time yelling at the ref, not concentrating on the ballgame. He forgets what Walsh emphasizes on "Focus on the target while mind the game".
After that game was over, Went to watch Walsh prodigy Mike Shanahan's and his Broncos go to Dallas and defeated The Cowboys at overtime."
Q: What do Shanahan, Holmgren, and Gruden have in common?.
A: They call their own offensive plays. ....
They lead from the front but they manage from the rear.
They diagram their own plays. They manage players from play to play
And they call the plays.
But, they give their field generals the ability to make the proper
adjustments at the line of scrimmage.
And the field generals makes the team better.

This is the Dao of the Consummate Strategist
This strategic leadership style is similar to Sun Bin's setting up Pang Juan
at Mai Ling point, having his prodigy Tien Jien running the field plays in order to
lure him to the fatal point of no return,

In what has become a Motor City tradition, some fans chanted, "Let's Go Red Wings!" late in the fourth quarter as perhaps 5,000 spectators stuck around to watch the end of the awful performance.
Ha! Ha! Ha! ... Ha! Ha! Ha! ... Ha! Ha! Ha!
